About

Portrait of Fernando Vilanova

I'm a director and cinematographer based in Spain, a husband and a father of three.

For fifteen years my work has taken me to thirty countries on five continents. I've filmed wildlife in East Africa, remote Indigenous communities in the Amazon, high-speed car sequences in Ronda, and luxury hospitality on some of the world's most exclusive islands. Along the way I've worked with brands, agencies and organizations including Fujifilm, Four Seasons, Honda, Pepsi, LinkedIn, HubSpot, Pizza Hut and the UN World Food Programme.

Today my work sits between advertising and documentary: films with the craft of a high-end commercial and the honesty of something real. I develop the story, lead the shoot with a clear vision and the instinct to turn the unexpected into an advantage, and shape the image alongside a team of collaborators built over years of high-end work together. That continuity, from the first conversation to the final grade, is what holds the film together.

Whether it's three of us in a remote location or a full crew on an international campaign, the approach doesn't change. Human comes first.

In the field

Years of shooting in remote places teach you to read a location, a person and a change in light quickly. The best moments are rarely the planned ones.

Any scale

Three people in the Amazon or a full crew on an international campaign. The scale changes; the standard stays where it is.

The whole film

Years across development, production and post mean every decision on camera is made with the budget, the schedule and the edit in mind.

What's next

More and more, I'm drawn to people and brands that dare: that take on challenges, break the mould and go beyond what's comfortable, in sport, endurance, the outdoors and exploration. I want my work to share stories that are real and meaningful, and that are still worth watching years from now.
